Started out nasty---ended nasty too!

I woke up today to a really cold, windy and rainy mess.  I did not like this at all.  So I put my shorts back in the drawer and got back out my winter hat.   It was 39F when I took the kids to the bus stop, by the time I took my little one the temperature had risen to 45F but it was still nasty and windy.  The winds were 13mph and sure felt like more.  The humidity was at 89% which it sure felt like it.  The forecast for when it was going to rain changed more times today than the Vikings changed quarterbacks!!! So finally when I had given up on the day being nice at all, I walk outside and I see a break in the clouds, so instead of complete overcast like the morning time, it was only scattered clouds and then about an hour later, even less clouds and something really weird and warm too, THE SUN!!!  It was awesome.  Then I went to my last class at 2:00p.m. and when I came out, ick again.  I had the pleasure of driving home and getting my 9 year old son ready to play a baseball game in this nasty weather.  I was sure prepared with an umbrella and a full assortment of blankets and wind jackets and even a snuggie.  I was not thrilled, but these crazy little kiddies were out there playing in it and I was up in the stands being a little baby and complaining about being cold.
The rest of the night should get colder and even down to 40F which my new plants should all enjoy, urgh.  I had to bring them in and my 37 Koi fish from my pond.  Oh well, it should be just as gross and cold and nasty tomorrow and just as much rain or drizzle.  Tuesday night the rain should stop though which should bring a little warmer days ahead.
US Current Surface Map
This map shows the low pressure systems and the occluded front over Wisconsin which is why this nasty weather should stay around for a few days.  The low fronts are pushing across the northeastern part of the U.S. There is also a huge trough in the plains area which may be causing the bad weather and possible tornadoes.

US Severe Weather Alerts
This map indicates some pretty intense winds in Nevada and Arizona and parts of southern California.  Hope there are no wildfires as wind is not a good combo for that!   Texas is a big state and for more than half of it to be under either a flood warning or a flood watch, that is pretty bad. The southern most tip of Texas near the Mexican border has some severe  thunderstorm warnings.  There is a few scattered severe thunderstorm warnings in North Carolina and Virginia and then up in Pennsylvania, there is a huge portion of the middle of the state that is probably getting hit pretty hard right now.  The western part of New York is getting some pretty intense wind too.    Luckily no tornado warnings or watches  presently.

US Lightning Strikes

This map verifies the thunderstorm warnings in the areas discussed above, the lightning strikes are in the same areas of the bad weather with the exception of Florida and off the coast of Florida.  This may indicate other bad weather patterns for the south.

US Infrared Satellite Map
So not only is Texas getting pounded by rain, thunderstorms and warnings, it is also cold rain and there is a lot of it.
India Satellite
Across the world there are similar patterns of the nasty weather. Bangkok, Hanoi and Dhaka are getting hit pretty hard as well.  I wonder if it is as cold as it is here in the U.S.

Noul Reaches Japan; Okinawa Hunkers Down

Japan was hit by a super typhoon with record breaking winds en route to the main island.
Tro\\\

This couple died saving their 18 month old baby who survived the tornado.  Sunday night a twister tore through their home.  The twister was and EF2.  The little girl is with family and I am sure she will be told how her parents gave their lives for her. But with some better preparation for these types of hazards, they might have made it too.

This maps shows what I discussed in the previous maps of where the thunderstorms are and it also shows many additional places in the U.S. that are raining and may have a little snow. Notice that Arkansas is almost completely covered in fog as are many areas of the east coast.

Tomorrow in Eau Claire, expect the same as today, hopefully some time soon we can actually have Spring and we hope it doesn't just jump over summer too.

Today was an interesting day!

It was beautiful but because yesterday was so nasty,  I didn't want to get too excited about it too quick but it ended up being a very nice day.  I posted some pictures of the beautiful mixed sky, so many different clouds today.  There were some gorgeous blue sky areas as well.  It is presently 51F but did reach 73F today.  It is presently partly cloudy and the wind is mind with a NE wind of 4 mph.  There is a chance of rain this evening of 20%. The temperature tomorrow should be around the same as today and there is no rain in the forecast for tomorrow.  It will be partly cloudy though with a more intense wind of ESE 13 mph.  Into the evening tomorrow there may be a chance of showers.

I am adding a little something different today.  A tree pollen map.  A lot of the pollen is due to the amount and velocity of winds in certain areas.

US Tree Pollen

The areas in red indicate there is a high amount of pollen in the air so get your allergy pills out for upper Michigan , northern Utah and eastern Virginia and parts of Pennsylvania, there is a small part of Nebraska but I imagine that is probably a state park or something.

US Current Temperatures

Current temperatures are normal for this time of year mostly but I don't think its normal in Arizona and New Mexico to be that cool.

US Current Surface Map
Well isn't this a crazy looking surface map.  I am not totally sure even how to describe it but I do see some rain patterns along the top of the line of the fronts and moving along it.  I am hoping that it misses Wisconsin.  There is a high pressure system around the Great Lakes and I am sure that will bring a little chilly air.

I am loving today!!!!!

Temperature today right now at 7:26 p.m. is 65F.  That is really warm for this hour and that is a good sign of summer coming!

US Current Temperatures

Finally Wisconsin is not on the wind chill map!!!!

US Wind Chill

There are a few areas that have lightning strikes in the U.S. and that is caused by the warmer air rising to cause the thunderstorms.  The area most affected is in Colorado and Wyoming.  Virginia and North Carolina are showing a lot of activity as well.
US Lightning Strikes

We have a Southeast wind of 55 mph and the Humidity is 30%.
Tonight it will get down to 39F but will be clear and no chance of precipitation with a SSW wind of 2 mph.  The temperature in the morning will be around 40F but the humidity will rise to 78%!
The rest of the week should be about the same but Friday will be cloudy with a chance of showers but only about 20%.  Sunday we will reach 80F but wait for the thunderstorms as they roll in at SSW wind of 12 mph in the evening.
Sunday's Highs

Either way, spring is coming and we should all be thankful.  We have an upper level ridge keeping us warm now but will bring some storms with it.  The Jetstream is finally leveling out for us in the Midwest.  We get some warm wind from the west from a high pressure system.

Due to some techical diffuculties my posts for the last week will be in one post.

So last week we discussed microclimates and did an exercise with temperature, wind and dew point.  He did numerous different areas on campus.  Two days later something crazy happened.  We were in class and it began to snow!!!  I know, it was horrible!  We looked out the window and saw large snowflakes blowing in the wind, we looked again and they were gone, this happened numerous times during class.  At 4:15 p.m. when class was over, I went outside of Phillips Hall and it was really windy and snowing still, so I decided to go back in Phillips and walk through the building instead of outside, and what do you think happened a mere 100 feet away?  It wasn't snowing and barely any wind!  Talk about a microclimate.  So I walked to my car.  I walked between Centennial and Schneider and it was of course super windy and almost blew me over!!!  As soon I was out of the tunnel effect it went back to calm when I was on Park Ave.  The temperature was dramatically warmer once I was no longer in the middle of the buildings.  The rest of the week after that was pretty nice, the upper air data was stable each day and there was little no precipitation.  The average temperature was around 50F.  Which is not terrible but sure not what we were all hoping for.
This coming week will be warmer but there will be a possibility of rain and possibly storms.

WINDY,CHILLY, RAINY!!! Not my idea of SPRING!!!!!

Not how I hoped this week would go but what I expected based on the forecast.  YUCK, seriously some nice weather would be great.
It was a whopping 41F today, and it for sure feels dramatically colder.  I would say it feels about 28F.  Unfortunately it is going to be like this for at least a few more day.  It was completely overcast all day without even a hint of sun. Super depressing.  We have a pretty good chance of getting a wintery mix of snow, ice, and rain. Thankfully it won't hang around as temperatures are supposed to be in the 40's tomorrow too.  There is also a chance of a nasty wintery mix tomorrow as well.
Well if this doesn't say it all.  Minnesota and Wisconsin are just not very warm.  Not that the rest of the Midwest is either. This will hang on for a week or so.  I will take the cold instead of the possible nasty storms about to hit nine states on the east coast. The southern states are also getting hit with some pretty severe thunderstorms.

Upper air sounding chart has the LI:16.3 and KI: -8, there is a chance of precipitation but no thunderstorms.

Sadly tomorrow will look the same.  At least we do not have sever weather like other areas in the United States.

The wind today and for the rest of the week looks a strong.

US Wind Chill
Of course Wisconsin is on the wind chill map for late April, no shocker!!!!!!!!!!!

Well lets hope all this nasty weather passes so we can have some sunshine!

Beautiful Day!

Temperature today is slightly cooler than the last few days but still nothing to complain about.
Temperature presently is 61F could possibly get to 72F later today. In the evenings in the last few days the temperatures have dropped significantly.
Today is partly cloudy with the majority being cumulostratus clouds.  The wind is from the SSW at 5mph.  There is no chance of precipitation today during the day but possible into the evening and it is presently at 30% humidity.

US Weather Today (Replaced with Tonight later in day)

Temperatures today in the Midwest are quite nice.  It appears that all signs of spring are upon us.

US Weather Tonight

Tonight's temperatures will fall to around 50F.

US Morning Surface Map

This map shows that we are enjoying a high pressure system that is keeping us warm.  There could be a low pressure system pushed this way and make for some cooler temperatures next week and some high winds coming from the west.

The LI is 13.6 which is stable and the KI is 11.

not much upper air wind at 500mb.  The isobars being so far apart signifies good weather and lighter winds.

Nice temps today!

Nice temperatures today with the high of 72F.  It was sure windy today though with the wind from the W at 7 mph, it sure seemed like more wind than that at my house on the hill.  I think that must have been measured somewhere in a valley!!  Tonight it is 51 F and feels that was as well.  The humidity is 33% and there is no precipitation.  Today there were some really beautiful clouds surrounding a blue sky.  I did see some vertical formation occurring so I was wondering if some Cumulus congestus clouds would form but they seemed to decimate as quickly as they were building.  Tomorrow there it will be a beautiful day also with highs in the mid 70's!!!!  Can't complain about that.  There is no precipitation in the forecast either.  It should be a nice SSW wind at around 68 mph.  Here's hoping that this really means spring.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It snowed in Eau Claire but i am not complaining after the Destruction in Fairdale, Illinois

This post will start off with the horrible devastation that terrorized the town of Fairdale, Illinois.

This is a picture of some of the destruction in Fairdale, the inspirational flag on the branch  shows that there is still hope.

This storm hit the areas of Rochelle, Kirkland, and Fairdale, Illinois the hardest.  Presently two deaths reported.  The tornado that struck Fairdale appears to have done at least the damage of EF-3 and possible EF-4.  Today there are clear skies and looks like something like that could not have just happened.  Officials say that 18 homes were completely destroyed and swept from their foundations.

The forecast yesterday in Fairdale:  Thunderstorms and Temperature of 71F for the high and 44F for the low.  The temperature for today is a bit lower, it is 56F and 33F.  The average rainfall is between .09 inches and  0.11 inches.   It is presently 59.2 which is much cooler than yesterday.  Winds are out of the North at 8mph with gusts of 17mph.  It is 58% humidity.

Cold with freezing rain, not my idea of Spring!

Woke up this morning to a chilly, rainy, yucky day.  It was gloomy and dreary.  It was 30F this morning.  I am not ok with that.  It was super windy, I live on a hill so I imagine it seems much more windy up here!!!

US Weather Today (Replaced with Tonight later in day)
Yep, not at all the Spring weather I was hoping for.  I can't wait for the day that I don't have to wear a jacket and bring a rain coat.

US Departure from Normal High Temperatures

This map shows that it is colder than the normal temperature for this time of year.  I am hoping this is only a short time of frozen unpleasantness and the beautiful flowers and sun are just around the corner.

US Current Winds

This map shows that my analysis of the winds earlier were right on.  It shows that the winds are close to 30 mph near us so who knows if it could reach that here anyway.  Its a mess.

This sounding shows that the LI is 18.3 which is stable.  To me if I were to guess outside I would not find it stable because the wind is kicking it out there and there was some freezing rain too.  It seems pretty active.  I expected this map to be a little more intense.   This is Green Bay, WI, the following is in the cities, let see what the difference is.

KI 21 and LI  15.9 which is still stable.  The wind is still a factor but it is still considered stable.

according to this map, we should not be getting anymore rain but it sure seems like there will be!  Let's just hope that the weather gets better so we can forget that the Badgers lost!

Today overcast and dreary
